Laboratories Almirall was founded in Barcelona in 1943 by Antonio Gallardo Carrera with the support of the pharmacist Victor Almirall Rius, and in 1944 it began its industrial and commercial activity. In the late 50s they began their research and development activities. In the 1970s, it intensified its manufacturing with the creation of new plants in San Andrés de la Barca, San Feliú de Llobregat. Its expansión took place in the 80s with the acquisition of Spanish companies such as Funk, S.A. and Berenguer Beneyto, S.A. (1983), among others.
In 1984 Almirall launched its famous antacid Almax. Between 1990 and 2000, it expanded its facilities, in addition to launching its products in Asia and America and creating its first subsidiary in Portugal. In 2014, he transferred the development of the respiratory franchise to AstraZeneca in order to focus on the Dermatology area. Since June 22, 2020, the company, which has been listed on the Spanish Stock Exchange since 2007, has been part of the IBEX 35 index.
